About the event
Contact Improv is a freeform dance practice in which movement arises through physical contact with one or more partners. For me, it is an expression of deep listening, spontaneity, attunement, and honoring one’s authentic yes and no. It invites surrender, play, and the freedom to move in ways that feel true for you.
In this class, we’ll begin with a short warm-up to connect with ourselves, followed by partner exercises such as eye-gazing, mirroring, exploring negative space, and sharing weight. We’ll then open into an extended jam—an unstructured space to explore, improvise, and play together.
This class is beginner friendly and accessible to all.
About the facilitator:
Gabriel has been practicing Contact Improv weekly for over six years, alongside a daily meditation practice spanning fifteen years. His background includes more than a year of silent meditation retreat practice and about two and a half years living in Buddhist monasteries, as well as time as a Buddhist monk. He has also worked as a mental health therapist.
His movement practice is deeply informed by meditation—arising from stillness, not-knowing, and presence. He is drawn to the dissolution of self and other, to entering the flow where concepts drop away, and to the deep joining that becomes possible through embodied connection.
