Forum Immersion

Facilitated by Ian MacKenzie, co-director of The Village of Lovers

A two day exploration into the Forum practice - a powerful process designed to deepen relationships, cultivate transparency, and strengthen community bonds.

Overview

Join us at AWAKE for a two-day immersion into the practice of Forum - a ritual container designed to deepen connection, cultivate transparency, and regenerate trust. If you watched the documentary The Village of Lovers and glimpsed how the peace-village of Tamera (Portugal) uses Forum, you’re already familiar with the alchemy we’ll activate in Costa Rica.

Watch these short clips to get a taste:

Forum emerged in Germany as a way for intentional communities to strengthen trust, resolve hidden tensions, and foster empathy. Community members realized that decision-making was often derailed by unspoken emotions and undercurrents. Forum created a safe, structured “stage” where individuals could reveal their inner truth, supported by facilitators and witnessed by the group.

Through this practice, communities worldwide have discovered greater intimacy, creativity, and resilience. Forum sessions follow a simple form: one person at a time steps into the circle to share what is alive in them. Facilitators help deepen the expression, while participants later offer “mirrors” — reflections that illuminate new perspectives and insights.

Who This Is For

This immersion is especially suited to:

  • Changemakers, facilitators & community-builders ready to lean into relational depth and collective transformation.

  • Teams, collectives or intentional communities who wish to bring clarity, flow and trust into their communication and decision-making systems.

  • Individuals who are seeking containers of self-inquiry, confronting hidden dynamics and moving beyond superficial conversation into bold shared presence.

  • Anyone ready and curious on how the art of holding space can catalyze far greater coherence and creativity in their group.

If you are drawn to models of genuine connection, relational integrity and transformative group intelligence, this immersion will invite you into the next terrain.

What You Will Learn

Over the two days you will:

  • Gain a clear understanding of the roots, structure and purpose of ZEGG Forum — where it comes from, why it matters and how it works.

  • Participate in guided experiential exercises that invite you into your own personal edge and help you recognise the personal + interpersonal dynamics that underpin powerful relational work.

  • Explore the fundamentals of facilitation: how to hold presence, guide a presenter, use mirrors, deepen awareness, and engage both the individual and the field.

  • Practice facilitation tools realtime: you’ll taste the facilitator role, receive feedback, refine your capacity and leave with practical usable skills for your own community or workplace.

  • Learn to create “safe enough” containers for truth-telling and transparency, and discover how dynamic facilitation can be both soft and structurally potent.

  • Walk away with a beginner’s toolkit you can bring back to your own setting — whether you run circles, lead teams, host retreats or simply want to shift the quality of connection in your relational network.
